Q2 2024: Top Film & Television Apps' Performance in the US

In the second quarter of 2024, the US Film & Television app category saw varying trends across key players, as per data provided by Sensor Tower. Here's how the top five apps fared in terms of downloads, revenue, and weekly active users.

Max: Stream HBO, TV, & Movies started strong with downloads peaking at 18M in mid-April before declining to 7M by the end of June. Revenue showed a slight fluctuation, averaging around $11K per week. Weekly active users grew consistently, from 61M in early April to 111M by late June.

Star+ demonstrated a more stable revenue pattern, with a slight dip to $9K in late May but a sharp fall to $3K in the last week of June. Downloads saw a high of 14M in early April but dropped to less than 1M by the end of the quarter. The app's active users started at 140M and experienced a gradual decrease, ending at 132M.

Disney+ showed resilience in revenue, maintaining around $4K weekly, with a notable spike to $9K in the last week. Downloads also surged in the final week, reaching 17M from an initial 5M. Active users exhibited a steady increase from 114M to 155M throughout the quarter.

Netflix maintained a consistent revenue stream, averaging $2K weekly, with a peak at $2K in early June. Downloads remained relatively stable, hovering around 5M each week. Active user numbers varied slightly, ending the quarter at 255M, down from the 262M seen at the start.

Lastly, Amazon Prime Video observed a steady revenue with an average of $5K weekly and ending the quarter at $5K. Downloads peaked at 10M in late May, with a general trend of around 4M to 5M. Active users showed an increase, reaching 127M in mid-May, before stabilizing around 117M by late June.
